FCC GRANTS OQ TECHNOLOGY TEMPORARY AUTHORIZATION FOR LIVE DEMOS OF 5G NTN IoT IN USA

The Federal Communication Commission has granted the Luxembourg-based company OQ Technology a Special Temporary Authority (STA) for the purpose of demonstrating 5G Non-Terrestrial-Network IoT coverage over LEO for experimental purposes. With this granted STA, OQ Technology aims to run proofs of concepts and live demonstrations for prospective clients situated in the USA, leveraging one of its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
The test areas will be taking place in remote areas in both states of California and Florida. OQ Technology already has interested strong pipeline of clients who would like to take part in those experiments. The tests will involve the users using OQ Technology NB-IoT NTN user terminals for enterprise end-to-end solutions.
OQ Technology holds licenses in various countries worldwide and is already commercially providing connectivity services using the standard 3GPP NB-IoT. It is the first company globally to offer this service via Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. “We are very grateful to the FCC for granting us the authorization – We are committed to making sure all the tests run smooth and follow all the guidelines, the US is a big market for us and is in our commercial road map, and although we are deploying service currently on other parts of the world we kept receiving requests from many companies and clients in the US to try and test the service”.
OQ Technology has already 10 satellites in orbit and has partnered with customers such as Aramco, Telefonica, Transatel, Deutsche Telekom and many more. The company is already planning the launch of it next batches of satellites.
